Sharlene is an Aboriginal academic in the UQ Business School. Through this gift, Sharlene seeks to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue their ambitions within business, innovation, and entrepreneurship, with a preferential focus on students enrolled or intending to enrol within the School of Business. Sharlene seeks to ensure that the financial commitment required to access higher education is not a barrier to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students striving to achieve their goals year after year. By making this donation, Dr Leroy-Dyer will be the first UQ Aboriginal academic to establish an endowed UQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholarship fund, inspiring others in academia and broader community to follow in her footsteps. The scholarship's name, Ngupaiyiko Yammaliko, means giving back in Awabakal language.
