The RACDS recognises that people of Indigenous backgrounds face many challenges, including opportunities to undertake further professional development. The RACDS is committed to supporting Indigenous people to be future leaders of the College and the profession.
The RACDS First Nations Scholarship aims to support funding of Indigenous dentists throughout Oceania to undertake further training or education, either internal or external to the College. This could be in dentistry or leadership/management/governance.

To be eligible for this Scholarship, you must:
- currently hold a dental registration in the country of residence and are in good standing
- be a dentist of Indigenous descent/identify as Indigenous and are accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived and;
- be a resident of Oceania (vast area across the Central and South Pacific Ocean, including Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Naruru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.)
Applicants are required to submit an online application form alongside the following documentation by the closing date:
- Letter in PDF file outlining why you should be considered for this Scholarship, including an outline of the selection criteria in 800 words
- Evidence of current dental registration and good standing in country of residence
- Letter of support from a representative of an Indigenous organisation (to which you are well known) confirming your Indigenous heritage
- Outline of the course you intend to use the Scholarship for.
