Leonard Broom HDR Research Award

The objective of this Award is to provide funding for HDR Candidates of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, to support them to pursue a Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program, based at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH) in the Research School of Population Health.

Eligibility Criteria:

Up to two Awards will be available each year to a prospective or continuing domestic student who: Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and Is enrolled in and continuing to pursue a program of study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy or Master or Philosophy, at NCEPH at the ANU, and Has been awarded an HDR base stipend scholarship; Continuing candidates should apply within twelve months of commencement Note: An applicant may also apply for the Broom Research Award if they have applied for a HDR base stipend scholarship but have not yet learnt of the outcome. The Broom Research Award may be awarded to a candidate who has not obtained a base stipend scholarship, but only under exceptional circumstances and may be subject to submission of additional documentation for assessment.

How to Apply

The Chair of the NCEPH Scholarships Committee shall call for applications. Candidates should provide: A completed application form; A 2-page (maximum) CV; A 2-page (maximum) research proposal outlining the research aims to be addressed and Proposed research methodology/activities; Copies of your Academic Records (transcripts) from undergraduate and (where relevant) postgraduate degrees.

Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit, the potential for the proposed research to improve health, and the research potential of the proposal.
