DPIE Aboriginal Planning Scholarship

The Planning & Assessment division within the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) has developed the first Aboriginal Scholarship Planning Program.
This scholarship program will create a pathway to support Aboriginal planning students to commence their career with DPIE. The scholarship program will provide two Aboriginal students an annual scholarship, 12-week summer internship and a one-year full-time graduate role in the Planning & Assessment division.
At DPIE we know that Country is at the core of every Aboriginal person’s identity and sense of belonging. We aim to develop a better understanding of Aboriginal communities and to integrate this knowledge into our work and to create partnerships based on co-design and collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. The applicant must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident as defined by the Commonwealth
2. The applicant must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and provide documentation according to the UNE Confirmation of Aboriginality and Torres Strait Islander Rule.
3.The applicant is enrolling or enrolled in: Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, Diploma in Town Planning, Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Sustainability, Bachelor of GeoScience and Bachelor of Rural Science.
4. Open to New/Commencing or Continuing students in their 1st/2nd/3rd/4th year of a  degree/course (including honours) listed in 3. above
5. Academic requirement: For continuing students an average GPA of 4.0 in their course to date is required.

The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
  • Academic Merit
  • Area of Study (check site for order of preference)
  • The statement of case (check website)
  • An interview with DPIE representative
  • For continuing students who are shortlisted for the scholarship, a short written multiple question and answer task devised by DPIE to demonstrate knowledge and capability in Planning & Public Spaces works
