Environmental Law Bursary

The National Environmental Law Association (NELA) and Ngalaya First Nations Environmental Law Bursary is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lawyers, law students and legal academics with an interest in environmental law Australia-wide. 

 

The Bursary is a one-off payment of up to $10,000 towards the cost of specific goods or services to support education, professional development or advocacy in environmental law. This may include: conference attendance, professional training, environmental law courses, travel for fieldwork, event attendance or other activities that help foster connections, networks and new ideas and relationships for researching and practicing environmental law.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this Scholarship, you must:

  • be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and;
  • be enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or postgraduate program (e.g. LLM or PLT) in Australia or;
  • be currently practicing law or working as a legal academic in Australia.
How to Apply

To apply you must write a 1-2 page cover letter which:

  • introduces yourself and your mob;
  • explains your professional, academic or community-focused goals;
  • provides details and an estimated budget of the activities you are seeking support for and;
  • explains how the activities will help advance your career in environmental law.

 

You may choose to include a copy of your CV and/or academic transcript to support your application.
