Garawa Nursing Scholarship
The Garawa Nursing Scholarship supports third-year Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander nursing students in undertaking a clinical placement in rural NT.
You'll receive a scholarship valued at up to $5000, paid in full at the commencement and/or during the scholarship placement, to be spent towards travel, accommodation and some living expenses whilst on placement. The flights and accommodation will be arranged internally by the School of Nursing.

To be eligible for this Scholarship, you must:
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined under Section 5 of QUT's Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent Policy;
- be open and willing to undertake a primary health placement in a rural or remote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in the Northern Territory, where there is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander facilitator and/or preceptor and;
- be enrolled and commencing in either:
- the third year of NS42 Bachelor of Nursing in the applicable semester or;
- the final year of NS89 Master of Nursing - Entry to Practice in the applicable semester.
Your application will also need the following documents:
- a copy of your resume/CV
- a copy of your academic record from HiQ site;
- proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent status;
- two referee reports that recommend you as likely to succeed in your studies and the contribution you make or could make in your community and;
- a written response of up to 1000 words total, addressing the following application questions:
- provide examples of your academic ability and potential to succeed at university (25%);
- describe your personal attributes that contribute to your success at university, including factors such as community engagement, career aspirations, interests, drive, ability to overcome adversity (25%);
- explain how you handle situations in your nursing that may be unfamiliar or different to what you are used to (25%) and;
- discuss how the Garawa Nursing Scholarship will assist you in achieving your current and future career goals (25%).
