UQ Poche Centre Indigenous Health RHD Scholarship
The UQ Poche Centre brings together Indigenous and health expertise across the University, and works collaboratively with Indigenous community organisations and health providers, on improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Centre has two key areas of focus:
developing a skilled and available workforce in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; and
improving urban Indigenous health outcomes across the life course.

Study for the scholarship must be targeted at improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in an urban setting.
Applicants are expected to:
Undertake research that responds to needs identified by Indigenous communities and aims to improve urban Indigenous health outcomes across the life course, from maternal and child health, through adolescence to the challenges of chronic disease and ageing, with a major focus on prevention and education.
Produce research, in collaboration with primary health care providers, which translates to immediate outcomes for Indigenous communities.
Applicants are expected to:

This scholarship is awarded via a competitive scholarship process, but applicants can apply at any time. The scholarship will remain open until all scholarships are filled.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible you must:
- Be an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person;
- Be assessed by the Graduate School as meeting all conditions foradmission to the higher degree by research program;
- Be the recipient of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Scholarship;
- be studying full-time onshore in Australia;
- have your research align with the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health research agenda and;
- have one of your supervisors be an academic from the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.
How to Apply
Before you apply:
- Check your eligibility for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil);
- Identify a supervisor in your field with expertise that's relevant to your proposed supervisor;
- Prepare your documentation and;
- Contact the Poche Centre (poche.hdr.support@uq.edu.au) and advise them that you are interested in being considered for the Scholarship, what your application number is and include a copy of your CV.
You don't need to apply separately for this Scholarship, submit an EOI to your preferred program.
When you submit your EOI, complete the ‘Scholarship/Sponsorship’ section with the following details:
- Are you applying for an advertised project: ‘No’
- Are you applying for (or have you been awarded a non-UQ scholarship or sponsorship: ‘No’
- Select that you would like to be considered for a UQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Scholarship.
- Upload your Confirmation of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

All short-listed applicants will be interviewed as part of the application process. Students will be selected based on: Academic merit; Strategic alignment of their project with the Poche Centre objectives of improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
