John Ross Clancy Indigenous Student Book Bursary

In 2024, USQ will offer one John Ross Clancy Indigenous Student Bursary to support an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student commencing their studies in a bachelor's degree.

The late John Ross Clancy was an advocate for Australian Indigenous affairs, and generously bequeathed funds to USQ to advance Australian Indigenous higher education. While John Ross Clancy had many achievements, both he and his wife, Lydia, were active in initiating the Black Women's Action group in the 1970s.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this Scholarship, you must:

  • be a domestic student currently residing in Australia;
  • be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person;
  • be a commencing student;
  • be intending to enrol at UniSQ in a bachelor's degree program in the applicable trimester and;
  • have an income at or below the financial threshold limits.

Further Information

The bursary will have a maximum value of $500 to be paid in Semester 1. 
 

Applicants must:

  • submit a personal statement (500 words maximum), outlining:        
    • what influenced and motivated you to choose your intended study program at USQ and how you see yourself as a future professional within this field.                 
    • your involvement within your school, extracurricular activities or within your local community (students will be asked to provide documentation to support their claims)
  • provide evidence of academic achievement as directed in the application process:
    • high school report card or post-secondary academic history (transcript of results) from outside USQ, e.g. school, TAFE etc.
  • provide evidence of financial hardship as directed in the application process.         
  • provide evidence you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person of Australia.
