The Eucharistic Community is the Australian Community of an international Roman Catholic Congregation of Religious Sisters. We are called "Eucharistic" because we take our meaning and values from the major ritual of the Catholic Church, the Eucharist ("Thanksgiving"). Those values, found in the Gospel, are unity, justice, love and peace.

Founded in Canada in 1950, the Community spent its first years in a near-totally enclosed lifestyle of prayer and contemplation: prayers for the world being of great importance. However, with the changes in the Catholic Church brought about by the Second Vatican Council, the Community began to explore new ways of contributing to our world.

So, over the years the Sisters of our small Community have been involved in many areas of ministry, including a presence among inner-city and regional Aboriginal communities. When it became possible this year for us to give money to "charity", some of us immediately thought of making a contribution to an indigenous group or person. It was suggested to us that we could offer a scholarship at Western Sydney University for an aboriginal woman. We were delighted, and we are very pleased that this is now able to happen.
